Guiding

Guiding means keeping something in position and is therefore roughly equivalent to positioning, directing and deflecting. For instance, lateral guide gibs can be used to deflect components on a conveyor belt in order to reposition them.

Overview of all applications

Applications - Guiding

If the elements used to guide components in the production process (guide gibs, guide pins, guide pulleys, etc.) become worn, their positioning accuracy is no longer guaranteed and inaccuracies gradually creep into the process. In many cases, abrasion of guide elements is undesirable. Depending on the material, this means that metallic or non-metallic abrasion of the guide gib can soil, contaminate or even damage the guided part.

This is why rivets or screws are guided through a ceramic tube to hold them precisely in position for hardening by means of inductive heating.

Sample Solutions

Spacer sleeves

Spacer sleeves made from high-performance ceramics are used whenever a defined clearance must be created between two components or in situations where a distance must be bridged.

Slide rails

If metallic materials are used for guides or rails, wear due to friction is unavoidable. Slide rails made of DOTHERM materials offer the benefits of excellent friction and sliding properties, high wear resistance and thermal stability.

Insulating components for plastic welding technology

A plastic welding process generates heat that must be insulated. The following applies: The shorter the cycle times, the greater the amount of energy that needs to be introduced into the joining zone.
